GATEWAY MINISTRIES
Gateway's Vision is to work toward the elevation and education of young women in India to help them become productive citizens in their respective communities.
WHO WE ARE
Our Roots
Born in Mumbai India, Theresa is the sixth of nine children. As an athlete, she
broke the national record in the high jump at the age of 15, and the national
records in the 800 metres and 1500 metres at the age of 19.
Since then, Theresa felt compelled to do something for the upliftment of the
marginalized poor of India. Thus, she served as the principal of three of the Loreto Convent English Medium Institutes for 15 years.
In 1992, Theresa went abroad to Canada and the United States of America for
further studies as a counsellor and do volunteer work. She specialized as an
educational consultant. She has lectured extensively in North America, Europe,
Asia, and Australia.
Since 1998 Theresa now works full time to educate underprivileged children and
young women.
As of 2012, Gateway Community College for young women has been in operation.
Gateway provides the students with free education and accommodation. The ones
who can afford something towards their meals, they pay up to Rs.1000 monthly.
The college girls are usually daughters of widows, orphans, and those whose dads
are alcoholics or jobless. The goal of the organization is to enable these young
women to be the breadwinners of their respective families.
Theresa tells us that all this is possible because of God's grace. She also credits her committed staff, who assist in caring for the girls under their care.
In Theresa's own words: “An educated mind can lift up a nation.” In particular, the nation of India, which she gives her life for.
